REAL Experiences From REAL People

Camps-----Original Message----- http://www.springhillcamps.com The camp is called Spring Hill and it is located near Evart, Michigan. This camp is WONDERFUL! We sent each of our girls there for multiple weeks every summer from the age of 7 through their mid- teens. They do all the ususal summer camp stuff at this camp and more! But what is best, is that they teach values. Kids are kept in small groups through out the week that they are enrolled--groups of 6 to 8 kids with one counselor. There are fewer kids and an extra counselor assigned if there is a child in the group with special needs. They LOVE to have special needs kids enrolled at this camp and they do a fantistic job with them. Each day in addition to all the fun activities, they have lessons on love, trust, hope, faith, tolerance, and so on. They weave these themes into everything else that they do all week. It is so wonderful to have a place to send kids where they can learn about things like love and trust. We are so thankful that we found this camp and that we sent our children there. What they learned helped them grow into the wonderful young women they are today. They have all the ropes and climbing courses that are used in various therapies to teach trust and the older groups of kids get to use these. One of the great ones is where they go across a zipline up high over a small pond. Need lots of trust to do that. They have swimming, horse back riding, water sports, soccer, basketball, extreme sports, etc. (to name a few) and then for older kids: a camping/canoe trip in Canada, backpacking in the Rockies, Hiking in Pennsylvania. Just so many opportunities. It is a Christian program. Some of the beliefs of the counselors were different then our own, but we had no trouble explaining to our kids that their beliefs were different from ours. It all worked out well. I highly recommend this camp for kids in the summer time. It is great for average kids and it is also wonderful for kids with special needs. And the price is reasonable. And you can get a discount price if you go the first or last week of the summer. |
